This calculator uses the 2009 CKD-EPI creatinine equation to estimate renal function and automatically assigns the CKD G stage. It also allows optional albuminuria input for CGA classification and KDIGO prognosis.
How to use the calculator
- Enter serum creatinine, age, sex, and race in the eGFR section.
- The default creatinine unit is µmol/L. Use the unit switch if your result is in mg/dL.
- Click Calculate eGFR to get the estimated GFR and CKD G stage.
- If albuminuria data is available, enter ACR or AER in the optional section.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does eGFR measure?
eGFR estimates how well the kidneys filter waste from the blood. It is expressed as mL/min/1.73m² and is interpreted together with clinical findings and urine albumin results.
Can one low eGFR result diagnose chronic kidney disease?
No. Chronic kidney disease generally requires abnormalities of kidney structure or function that persist for at least three months. A single result should be interpreted in clinical context and repeated when appropriate.
Why is albuminuria included in the calculator?
Albuminuria provides additional prognostic information. Combining the GFR category with the albuminuria category produces the CGA classification and helps estimate CKD progression and cardiovascular risk.
Which creatinine unit should be entered?
The default is µmol/L, which is commonly used in Malaysia. The unit switch can be used for mg/dL, and the calculator converts the value before applying the equation.
Is this calculator a substitute for clinical assessment?
No. It is an educational and clinical support tool. Results should be interpreted by a qualified healthcare professional together with symptoms, trends, medications, hydration status, muscle mass, and other investigations.
